Extended Abstract

Introduction and Objectives: Marital infidelity is one of the most significant factors contributing to marital conflicts and divorce (Gayer, 2010; McDaniel, Brown, & Krawns, 2017). At the same time, marital infidelity can also be the result of spousal conflicts. This phenomenon shakes the foundations of marriage and leads to the destruction of the strong institution of the family. Marital infidelity is defined as deception and unreliability in the relationship despite the existence of commitment in marital life (Simms, 2011). Such relationships can be emotional, sexual, or both (Drigotas, Safstrom, & Gentilia, 1999).
Treating conflicts arising from marital infidelity is one of the most challenging therapeutic issues that counselors face (Weissman, Dixon, & Johnson, 1997; Baucom, Snyder, & Gordon, 2017). Family therapists have proposed various interventions to treat marital infidelity (Peluso, 2015; Baucom, Snyder, & Gordon, 2017). Nevertheless, some existing treatments lack sufficient effectiveness or comprehensiveness. Moreover, they often fail to consider cultural and religious dimensions (Zāriʿī, 2025). On the other hand, Islamic texts provide numerous statements concerning marital infidelity that offer the capacity to develop a therapeutic package (Majlisī, 1403 AH, vol. 76, p. 24). Accordingly, the present study aims to design a conceptual model of marital infidelity based on Islamic thought and to develop a therapeutic package grounded in this model.
Method: The method employed in the present study is qualitative content analysis. This approach was originally used for textual analysis in ancient Greece and later applied to the study and interpretation of the Torah. Muslim scholars also utilized this method to analyze Qur’anic and hadith texts (Rafīʿpūr, 2003, p. 110). In the inductive qualitative content analysis applied in this research, the researcher derives overarching concepts based on the research questions and objectives. Codes are extracted and labeled, then grouped into categories and subcategories according to their similarities and differences. Finally, evidence from the text is provided for each concept (Shannon, 2005). In this study, data were first coded and placed into subcategories and categories, and with consultation from experts, the main categories were finalized.
To evaluate validity, reliability, and trustworthiness (equivalent to validity and reliability in quantitative research), this study employed criteria such as credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. Credibility corresponds to internal validity. Accordingly, to achieve reliability or trustworthiness, the study used the validity criteria developed by Guba and Lincoln (1989; Houman, 2006). The credibility or validity of the findings related to the conceptual model and therapeutic package was assessed by experts through examining the congruence and discrepancies with Islamic sources. Content validity was evaluated using both the Content Validity Ratio (CVR) and Content Validity Index (CVI) methods (Fathī Āshtīyānī, 2016).
Findings: The first finding of the study indicates that from an Islamic perspective, 33 factors contribute to the occurrence of marital infidelity, of which 15 are individual factors and 18 are relational factors.
Individual factors include: weak rational faculties, weak religious commitment, emotional instability, poor self-control, permissiveness, low self-respect, novelty-seeking, pessimism, madness, identity confusion, lack of mental management, stimulating music, illegitimate nutrition, innate predispositions, poverty, and financial need.
Relational factors include: ethnic and social backgrounds, family backgrounds, weak male support, lack of proper appearance, emotional needs of women, sexual needs, women’s low receptivity, revenge against spouse, ambiguity of intra-family boundaries, coercion and compulsion, destructive verbal communication, inappropriate dress, unhealthy interactions (mixing), lack of management of visual sense, lack of management of auditory sense, lack of management of olfactory sense, lack of management of gustatory sense, and lack of management of tactile sense.
The second finding reveals a four-part therapeutic structure:

Preparation phase
Phase focused on the unfaithful partner
Phase focused on the harmed partner
Phase focused on the couple’s relationship

The third finding is the development of a therapeutic package for marital infidelity based on Islamic teachings (Qur’an and hadith). This package is delivered in 13 sessions across the four phases: the first two sessions for preparation, two sessions for the harmed partner, one session for the unfaithful partner, and eight sessions focused on the relationship. Each session includes objectives, structure, mechanism (logic), and techniques.
Discussion and Conclusion: The first finding of the study reveals that 33 individual and relational factors contributing to marital infidelity can be extracted based on Islamic thought. This finding aligns with numerous empirical studies that identify multiple individual and relational factors involved in marital infidelity (Russo et al., 1988; Drigotas et al., 1999; Feldman & Kaufman, 1999; Shackelford, Buss, & Goetz, 2008; Blue & Hartnett, 2005; Allen et al., 2008).
Another key finding is that the conceptual model and its therapeutic package should be regarded as integrated, encompassing the preparatory phase, the harmed partner, the unfaithful partner, and the relationship. It integrates various cognitive, emotional, behavioral, structural, ethical, and spiritual dimensions. Furthermore, this therapy is designed based on Islamic thought and incorporates cultural considerations. Therefore, consistent with the findings of Jānbozorgī et al. (2023) and Zāriʿī (2025), it is named “God-Oriented,” emphasizing God’s central role in the marital and family relationship. Consequently, it can be considered an integrated God-Oriented therapy.
The Integrated God-Oriented conceptual model and therapeutic package share similarities and differences with other existing therapeutic approaches, particularly three major frameworks: the intergenerational systemic approach (Peluso, 2015), the integrative therapy by Baucom, Snyder, and Gordon (2009; 2017), and the attachment-based systemic integration model by Zola (2007).
Acknowledgments: The authors express their gratitude to all study participants and experts who contributed to the validation of the therapeutic package.
Conflict of Interest: The authors declare no conflicts of interest.

[1].
Extended Abstract

Introduction and Objectives: As the most fundamental and authentic social institution, the family plays a pivotal and irreplaceable role in the formation, sustainability, and transcendence of human societies, laying the groundwork for human growth and perfection in various individual and social dimensions (Hosseini Alamdari, 2016, p. 52). Almighty God has established the basis of human life and the survival of the human race on the concept of “couplehood” (zawjiyyat) and the sacred institution of the family, and the health and efficiency of the family system directly affect the individual and social well-being of all members of society. The roots of family problems also go back to a set of factors that directly or indirectly affect relationships among family members.
Among the hazards that can destabilize couple relationships and the family unit in recent decades are decreased family resilience in facing tensions and the emergence of marital burnout; these challenges can lead to decreased satisfaction, increased likelihood of psychological and social harms, high rates of formal and emotional divorces, and the emergence of non-traditional families and unsupervised children—all of which indicate fundamental problems in the structure of contemporary families (Pines, 2013).
Family resilience refers to the ability of individuals to face challenges and crises and return safely to a desirable state. In the family domain, resilience is defined as the family system’s capacity to restore balance and effective functioning after facing difficult and stressful conditions and is of great importance in maintaining family health and dynamism (Tsirigotis & Łuczak, 2018).
Marital burnout is another factor threatening families, meaning the loss of objective feelings of satisfaction, contentment, and experienced pleasure, and is characterized by emotional exhaustion, reduced sense of commitment and attachment, and negative attitudes toward the spouse and the marital relationship (Ahari et al., 2018; Alsawalqa, 2019); in fact, the accumulation of frustrations, tensions, and negative anxieties of daily life is the cause of erosion and, consequently, burnout. This condition occurs when there is no compatibility between couples’ expectations and the reality of the relationship (Pines, 2013).
Technically, marital burnout is not merely a type of dissatisfaction, but a three-dimensional syndrome comprising emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment in the relationship. This construct represents a chronic emotional and cognitive rupture that weakens the couple system’s ability to activate its resilience resources; in contrast, family resilience as a process variable focuses on three main axes: shared belief systems (such as positive meaning-making in crisis), family organizational patterns (including flexibility and coherence), and communication and problem-solving processes. Any abnormality that disrupts the family system’s efficiency in these three axes increases the risk of reduced resilience and increased burnout (Sen et al., 2023; Topkaya et al., 2024).
One of the factors damaging the family and weakening couple relationships, especially in the occurrence of the two aforementioned harms, is the abnormality of family boundaries. One of the important family issues is the cognitive distance of members and the scope of action of subsystems in the family, which is referred to as “boundary” (Salarifar, 2009). A boundary is an imaginary barrier or limit that serves to maintain and advance the distinction and integrity of the family as a whole as well as subsystems and family members. The boundaries of a subsystem specify the rules of who and how one is part of this subsystem. Boundaries are among the structural components of the family system.
In this context, the role of “couple boundaries” as a key structure in organizing relationships within and outside the couple subsystem has received attention. Couple boundaries refer to imaginary lines derived from behavioral patterns, rules, and expectations that separate the couple subsystem from other subsystems and the external environment. These boundaries play a decisive role in how couples interact with each other and with individuals outside the subsystem (Houshyari, 2020).
According to Minuchin’s structural family theory, boundaries are divided into three main categories based on permeability: diffuse boundaries that lead to enmeshment and lack of independence of the couple subsystem; rigid boundaries that cause emotional disengagement and excessive distance between couples and other family members; and clear or normative boundaries that provide the possibility of intimacy, mutual support while maintaining the identity and autonomy of couples. Abnormality of boundaries in any form (diffuse or enmeshed) is considered a structural and stressful factor that disrupts the couple subsystem’s functioning in maintaining privacy, joint decision-making, and stress management and provides the ground for burnout and reduced systemic resilience. The lack of transparency and non-commitment to internal and external family boundaries is one of the most important factors in the occurrence of family conflicts. Abnormality in these boundaries can lead to problems such as interference of roles and duties, reduced independence of couples, and increased family conflicts, ultimately resulting in marital dissatisfaction (Minuchin, 2023, pp. 1008-1012).
In the analysis of family experts, Kalantari et al. (2011) show that about 8% of divorces in Iran are rooted in family factors, including non-observance of these boundaries; therefore, creating healthy boundaries is suggested as a therapeutic and preventive solution.
Rapid social, industrial, and scientific changes in various societies have created numerous challenges for families; at the same time, the inadequacy of Western family therapy theories with secular premises and their incompatibility with the religious and cultural models of Iranian society has doubled the need to use indigenous and religious models. The key to this model in comparison with the structural approach is not in describing the structure, but in the foundations and ultimate goal of boundaries; while structural theory defines boundaries based on psychological and observational efficiency, the Islamic model explains couple boundaries according to a normative and jurisprudential framework (practical rulings and ethics). This normative framework considers boundaries not merely a descriptive construct, but a prescriptive and obligatory principle whose ultimate goal is spiritual transcendence and the fulfillment of divine duties in the family institution. This reinforces the internal motivation for adhering to boundaries and gives couples a stronger belief system for maintaining cohesion and managing stress in the direction of resilience (Houshyari, 2020).
Given this fundamental need, educating couples in the field of regulating and creating healthy communication boundaries is raised as a necessity in today’s families. This education can help improve family efficiency, increase marital satisfaction, and ultimately strengthen family resilience and reduce marital burnout. The educational package for regulating couple boundaries based on Islamic sources was prepared and validated by Khorrami, Houshyari, and Taghiyan (2023) based on Islamic sources. Findings of previous research have shown that this educational program is effective in optimizing couples’ physical boundaries, satisfying couples’ emotional-sexual needs, improving interaction with non-mahrams, improving couples’ verbal relationships, preventing couples’ infidelity, improving couples’ sexual relations, couples’ preferred interactions with each other, committing couples to ethical principles, and maintaining family information (Khorrami, Houshyari, & Taghiyan, 2023; Houshyari, 2020). In various studies such as Qafihi and Houshyari (2024), Khorrami, Houshyari, and Taghiyan (2023), Gholamian and Houshyari (2023), Kachouei, Houshyari, and Mohammadian (2023), Shirchi and Houshyari (2022), Safouraee Parizi and Nouri Ahmadabadi (2023), the effectiveness of the couple boundaries educational package and its relationship with various variables has been examined, but so far the effect of this education on improving family resilience and reducing marital burnout has not been examined simultaneously; therefore, the present study seeks to examine the effectiveness of couple boundaries training on family resilience and marital burnout. This research tries to provide scientific evidence based on religious and cultural models to improve the health and dynamism of the family system in society and to answer the clinical and educational needs of this field.
Research Method: This research is a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design, a non-equivalent control group, and a two-month follow-up. The statistical population of the study included all married women residing in Ilam city. The research sample of 30 individuals was selected using convenience sampling, and participants were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (15 individuals each). Inclusion criteria were: at least one year elapsed since the date of marriage, no history of referral to psychotherapy and counseling centers in the last six months, and informed consent to participate in the research. Individuals who missed more than one session of the educational intervention program were excluded from the final data analysis. The experimental group received the educational package “Regulating Couple Boundaries Based on Islamic Sources” developed by Khorrami, Houshyari, and Taghiyan in ten two-hour sessions, while the control group received no educational intervention during this period. Data collection instruments included the Family Resilience Questionnaire (Sixbey, 2005) with 66 items and the Marital Burnout Scale (Pines) with 20 items, whose reliability has been confirmed in domestic studies. Data were collected at three time points: pretest, posttest, and two-month follow-up. Data analysis was performed using SPSS statistical software; descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, and standard error of the mean) were used to describe the data, and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was employed to compare group scores after controlling for the effect of pretest scores. Upon completion of all research stages, ethical considerations were observed by providing the educational content to the control group.
Results: Descriptive findings showed that the mean family resilience score in the experimental group increased significantly from 203.1 (SD = 14.20) in the pretest phase to 228.6 (SD = 11.79) in the posttest phase, while no noticeable change was observed in the control group. Furthermore, the mean marital burnout score in the experimental group decreased considerably from 68.41 (SD = 16.31) in the pretest to 41.4 (SD = 10.03) in the posttest. Results of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and examination of skewness and kurtosis indices confirmed the normal distribution of data for both variables at an appropriate confidence level. The necessary statistical assumptions for conducting ANCOVA, including homogeneity of regression slopes and equality of variances, were also examined using relevant tests and confirmed to hold.
The results of ANCOVA for the family resilience variable indicated that, after removing and controlling for the effects of pretest scores, there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups at the posttest stage (F = 97.25, df = 27, P < 0.001). ANCOVA for the marital burnout variable also showed a significant difference between the groups after controlling for pretest scores (F = 11.18, df = 27, P < 0.001). Therefore, the findings indicate that training in couple boundaries based on Islamic sources significantly increased family resilience and decreased marital burnout among married women. These effects remained stable at the two-month follow-up stage, indicating the durability of the educational intervention’s impact. Thus, both sub-hypotheses of the research—increased family resilience and decreased marital burnout in the experimental group—were confirmed.
Discussion and Conclusion: The findings of the present study demonstrated that structured training in couple boundaries based on Islamic sources, by clarifying mutual expectations, respecting personal privacy, and strengthening communication skills, increases the family’s capacity to adapt effectively to life crises and challenges. This educational intervention, inspired by the normative framework of Islam and fundamental concepts such as Sakīnah (tranquility), Mawaddah (affection), and Raḥmah (compassion), strengthens couples’ internal motivation for adhering to healthy boundaries and provides a stronger belief system for managing stress and resolving conflicts.
The significant reduction in marital burnout is likely due to reduced role conflicts, increased emotional intimacy, prevention of unnecessary enmeshment, and the creation of a safe space for expressing needs and feelings. These results align with findings from previous research on the effectiveness of educational packages based on Islamic sources (Qafihi & Houshyari, 2024; Khorrami, Houshyari, & Taghiyan, 2024; Gholamian & Houshyari, 2023; Kachouei, Houshyari, & Mohammadian, 2023; Shirchi & Houshyari, 2022; Safouraee Parizi & Nouri Ahmadabadi, 2023) and confirm the efficacy of indigenous and religious models in family therapy interventions.
Comparison with Previous Research:
The findings of this study are consistent with the results of Qafihi and Houshyari (2024), Khorrami, Houshyari, and Taghiyan (2024), Gholamian and Houshyari (2023), Kachouei, Houshyari, and Mohammadian (2023), Shirchi and Houshyari (2022), and Safouraee Parizi and Nouri Ahmadabadi (2023), confirming the effectiveness of the educational package on family resilience. Resilience is considered one of the fundamental personality components for regulating motivation, emotion, and behavior (Shrivastava & Desousa, 2016). Resilience is not merely passive resistance against harm or threatening conditions; rather, a resilient individual plays an active and constructive role in shaping their environment (E’tebar Jahromi, 2010). This finding highlights the importance of clear boundaries in strengthening the family’s ability to adapt and recover from problems. Family resilience refers to the family’s capacity to withstand crises, recover from adversities, and even grow as a result of them. A correct definition of boundaries prevents unnecessary enmeshment, improves communications, reduces misunderstandings and conflicts, and respects personal privacy and family autonomy. Families with healthy boundaries are neither enmeshed and intrusive nor rigid and disengaged; rather, they possess the necessary flexibility to change boundaries in response to different situations. This flexibility is one of the key components of resilience.
The second finding of the study showed that couple boundaries training significantly reduces marital burnout. The mean marital burnout score in the experimental group was lower than the control group, and this difference was interpreted in favor of the experimental group; in other words, it reduced the level of marital burnout. This finding is also consistent with the results of previous research (Qafihi & Houshyari, 2024; Khorrami, Houshyari, & Taghiyan, 2024; Gholamian & Houshyari, 2023).
Practical Implications:
It is recommended that this educational package be utilized in family counseling centers, health clinics, and premarital education programs. Future research should examine its effectiveness with male samples, couples jointly, and with extended follow-up periods.
Limitations:
Limitations of the present study include the use of a sample of married women from Ilam city, the convenience sampling method, and the non-generalizability of findings to men or other cultural contexts.
Acknowledgements: The authors sincerely express their gratitude and appreciation to all participants in the research and the collaborating centers in Ilam city that assisted in the data collection process. The authors declare that there is no conflict of interest in conducting and publishing this research.

Extended Abstract

Introduction and Objectives: Methodology is a broad strategy, outline, process, and plan that every researcher adopts in the path of choosing their research method. In other words, methodology encompasses the principles and criteria that guide and manage a research endeavor. In The Cambridge Dictionary of Philosophy, methodology is defined as the inquiry into the methods by which scientists arrive at the presumed facts about the world, and a critical examination of the logical reasons offered for the validity of these methods (Audi, 1995, p. 611). In fact, methodology presents theories about human activities during their scientific and scholarly endeavors (Wright Mills, 2000). Silverman (2000) also believes that methodology is an indicator of the “general approach to studying research topics.” Methodology more directly reflects the researcher’s epistemological position; for example, a researcher who explicitly adopts an empiricist view in acquiring knowledge approaches research topics through data collection rather than through theoretical formulations (Silverman, 2000; cited in Sadiqi, 2007, p. 34).
Choudhury (1989, p. 15) believes that the methodology of every science has presuppositions that precede the paths to reality; moreover, in his view, the methodology of every science is based on epistemology and axioms that determine the theoretical and empirical foundation of every field of science. One aspect of methodology that requires attention is the paradigm or theoretical framework within which the researcher wants to solve a specific problem. In fact, the paradigm is the basic orientation and strategy toward theory and research. The paradigm creates a system of thought for the researcher and is the first step in research methodology. In this system of thought, basic presuppositions include the important questions that must be answered, the puzzles that must be solved, and the research techniques that must be employed. Therefore, before beginning the actual research, the researcher’s paradigmatic goal must be determined.
In contemporary humanities, at least three important approaches have been identified so far: (1) the positivist paradigm, (2) the interpretive paradigm, and (3) the critical paradigm. These three paradigms, by mapping the path of scientific research and determining goals, determine how the researcher moves along the path of research (research method). Each of the three paradigms of positivism, interpretivism, and critical theory is influenced by general philosophical foundations such as ontological, theological, epistemological, anthropological, and value-based foundations. Islamic psychology, as an approach, will have a different paradigm alongside other contemporary psychological approaches based on its own foundations. The present study aims to introduce its paradigm and express the methodological framework of this approach.
Research Method: The current research aims to develop the collection of existing knowledge about scientific principles and laws. Therefore, this research belongs to the basic research category in terms of the research objective. In terms of the nature of the method, it is among “descriptive-analytical” research. However, in terms of the way of collecting information, it is considered library and documentary. In this research, firstly, by referring to reliable sources in methodology, the description and identification of the types of methodological paradigms in human sciences were discussed. Then, the characteristics and principles governing them were studied and analyzed in a systematic way, and then conclusions were drawn. For this purpose, the researcher described and analyzed the accepted paradigm and its governing principles in the field of Islamic psychology by relying on reliable methodological sources and relying on Islamic and psychological sources.
Research Findings: Rational Realism: The Chosen Paradigm in Islamic Psychology
The research findings showed that none of the three paradigms (positivism, interpretivism, and critical theory) can be accepted in the Islamic psychology approach. The paradigm accepted in this approach is the “rational realism paradigm.” In the methodological approach of Islam, this naturally originates from the Islamic worldview, especially its epistemological foundations, and is completely consistent with it. Islam considers man to be a realistic being who is always curious to discover the truth. All scientific endeavors of man are to discover the facts. Allameh Mesbah Yazdi (RA) says: “Since man’s truth-seeking nature seeks to understand reality, in the position of acquiring knowledge, it requires a scientific education that clearly shows him the true reality. The requirement of man’s truth-seeking nature is not merely to find a belief. What satisfies man’s nature and his truth-seeking desire is acquiring knowledge in accordance with reality and reaching the stage of certainty and moving away from ignorance, doubt, and conjecture” (Mesbah Yazdi, 1998, Vol. 2, p. 109).
For discovering reality, four tools are available to man: senses, rational argumentation, intuition, and revelation. Depending on the nature of the subject, one or sometimes all of these methods are employed to reach reality (as it is). Human reason, which is the faculty for measuring findings against reality, constantly examines human findings and measures them against the realities of the empirical, rational, intuitive, and revealed domains, and continuously sifts them to reach the final reality, which is certain knowledge (Mesbah Yazdi, 2010, pp. 35-139). Therefore, the Islamic paradigm in method can be considered “rational realism,” meaning that man is always seeking to discover reality. Since human realities are divided into four categories: sensory, rational, intuitive, and revealed, man tries to discover reality in each of these four domains. The faculty and psychological mechanism that always distinguishes the genuine from the counterfeit in all four domains is human reason (ibid.).
This paradigm follows the following principles:

Using Different Methods: In the human epistemological system, various methods of cognition are recognized; because in reality, comprehensive and all-encompassing knowledge of man and his characteristics is not possible except by using all various methods, and one cannot achieve a correct and comprehensive knowledge of man by relying on only one method. This pluralism in methods and tools of cognition provides a better basis for identifying the subtleties and details of human personality formation, quantitative and qualitative changes, and also the characteristics of each stage of human evolution and development. Although each of these methods has its own degree of validity and reliability, the human cognitive system gains knowledge of the appearances of things through the senses, reaches the perception of universals through reason and rational argumentation, becomes aware of what is beyond the reach of sense and reason through transmitted reports and reference to documents, and gains knowledge of the self and inner states of man through present knowledge (ʿilm al-ḥuḍūrī) and inner intuition. Therefore, it can be said that the Islamic psychology approach recognizes many ways in the path of discovering external realities and recognizing the laws governing the human psyche.
Using Quantitative and Qualitative Methods: Research method scholars in behavioral sciences also emphasize the multiplicity of ways of achieving cognition and consider the “scientific” (empirical) method merely as one of the sources of cognition (not the only method of cognition), and alongside it, they mention other sources of cognition, and even consider them necessary for understanding the existing situation and achieving comprehensive and all-encompassing knowledge. Mowli (1970) writes: A geographical map of a city shows the situation of different regions of that city and shows their physical relationship with each other. The more accurate and detailed the map, the better the realities related to the regions are depicted. The use of maps that have the desired accuracy facilitates related activities. Various fields of human knowledge in general, and behavioral sciences in particular, can be imagined like maps, but these maps, in addition to depicting phenomena and the relationships between them, also serve other purposes; including explaining the factors that create these phenomena and predicting how they will evolve in the future. In this case, by achieving knowledge in the realm of a field of knowledge, one can describe phenomena, predict how they occur, reveal how to control them, and finally achieve the set of theoretical relationships among them. In general, man throughout the history of his life has used various methods to compile a map of the realities of the world around him. The various sources of human cognition can be categorized as follows: (a) reference to an authoritative source; (b) methods based on spiritual wayfaring; (c) rationalist method; (d) scientific method (Mowli, 1970; cited in Sarmad et al., 1997, p. 19).

Therefore, as behavioral science methodologists also acknowledge, the scientific (empirical) method is only one of the methods of cognition in the path of discovering the laws, principles, and theories governing phenomena and events. Sarmad et al., after quoting Mowli, write: One of the first ways of cognition that has been used by mankind is the use of the opinions and information of authoritative references. Reference books and their use also constitute a kind of reference to an authoritative source. Spiritual wayfaring is also another way of cognition. Similarly, in the rationalist method, the body of knowledge is acquired through logical laws and argumentation (deductive-inductive). The scientific method is only one of the ways to reach cognition, which books and methodological sources (research method) in behavioral sciences deal exclusively with this last method, i.e., the “scientific method” (ibid., p. 20).
It should be noted that the knowledge and cognition discussed in contemporary humanities is not certain knowledge in the specific sense (one hundred percent certainty), but rather knowledge that “can be trusted and is reassuring”; because this level of knowledge is also called “science,” and people in their daily lives act upon this level of knowledge, trust it, and shape their behaviors based on this trust. The reason and custom of society members also base their interactions on the realism of this level of science; similarly, researchers and thinkers in their empirical findings trust and rely on it and confirm its realism and narration from outside and inside. The Qur’an also refers to this level of cognition with the word “knowledge” (ʿilm). For example, in two chapters of Sūrat al-Naḥl and verse 5 of Sūrat al-Ḥajj, while stating that man at birth knows nothing and it is as if his mind is a white tablet that is gradually filled through the senses and reason, or more precisely, gradually realizes along with achieving mental forms; also, man due to longevity and aging loses all those acquired knowledge and learned information and forgets all the principles he has learned, and sometimes even forgets concepts and does not remember any of them. In any case, based on these two verses, the collection of human knowledge, whether obtained through the senses or reason, is called “knowledge”; thus, from the Qur’an’s perspective, all rational arguments and also information and awareness obtained through the senses for man are true knowledge and cognition, and these terms are not exclusively limited to rational or sensory knowledge or certain knowledge in the specific sense. Rather, their realm is general and extensive (Hosseinzadeh, 2008, p. 151).
Although the findings of contemporary psychology mostly rely on the empirical method and the use of the tools of the external senses, it seems that detailed (deep and comprehensive) knowledge of human perceptual abilities, capabilities, motivations, and inclinations is the correct way to understand the contexts and talents and actualities that constitute man; therefore, all methods proposed for knowing man must be able to identify these matters in detail. A successful method of cognition is one that provides comprehensive and reliable knowledge of all human abilities, capacities, and characteristics (Vaezi, 2012, p. 74).
Therefore, it is not only unnecessary to introduce necessarily a unique method for knowing man and his characteristics from among the methods of cognition, but the analysis of methods, the realm and capabilities of each of the ways of cognition, may lead researchers to the conclusion that the reasonable and correct way is to use a combination of several methods of cognition. Of course, in contemporary psychology, the dominant view is that the only method of knowing human phenomena is the method of using the external senses and seeking help from sense and experience. However, it must be acknowledged and accepted that observing the behavior of human individuals and the stages of growth and learning in children, and empirical research in psychological and biological aspects of man, provides useful information about the empirical characteristics of man; nevertheless, the truth of man cannot be defined exclusively based on this empirical data, because many dimensions of human existence are beyond the reach of observation and experience of a researcher who observes from the outside; for example, man’s inner life and his deep emotional and spiritual tendencies are not empirically verifiable, and usually those researchers who have tried to define man using the empirical method that is verifiable and confirmable have erred and fallen into the fallacy of “essence and aspect.” The essence of this fallacy is that they consider one aspect of a thing as the essence and entirety of that thing (Vaezi, 2012, p. 74). Therefore, many scientific research that has sought to identify man and the factors affecting human personality and behavior have not been immune from this fallacy. The discovery of each of the factors affecting human personality, nature, and life has led some researchers and psychologists to define man based on that same factor and characteristic, and without paying attention to other factors affecting the formation of human personality and identity, they have ignored other dimensions of his existence and have placed one existential dimension of man in place of his entire personality; for example, Freud emphasizes one of human instincts as the main factor constituting his identity and personality, or behaviorist psychologists define man as an animal with unlimited learning power (ibid., p. 75).
On the other hand, with a little precision in the empirical method emphasized by contemporary psychology, the use of present knowledge and benefiting from the method of inner intuition is done secretly and covertly; because when empirical researchers go to the subjects to collect their information, in fact, in this method, they use tools such as questionnaires and interviews to discover the laws and characteristics existing in man and how changes occur in him. They emphasize the method of observation and objective experience in this way, unaware that if this method is looked at well and with sufficient precision, it will be clear that the researcher has collected research data secretly and unintentionally through the method of introspection; because when subjects want to report their perceptions, feelings, and emotions and answer the interviewer’s questions in an interview or mark one of the multiple options in a questionnaire, they must go within themselves and consider their inner findings through introspection and present knowledge, and then report it to the examiner (in the interview) or transfer and write it on the answer form in the questionnaire; in fact, this is the same method of introspection and present awareness that has come to help and the empirical method uses it secretly. Although contemporary psychology explicitly states that the empirical method is only based on objective and observable findings and should not use the introspection method, and in other words, the period of introspection research method is over and belongs to the time when psychology was in the lap of philosophy. Perhaps this is why Ernst Cassirer, in criticizing the empirical method of contemporary psychology, emphasizes the introspection method as one of the methods of cognition and research in behavioral sciences, although he does not consider it complete but considers it incomplete and believes that the introspection method can only know a small part of man.
Shaleh (1929) writes: When the psychologist studies inner life within himself, he uses the mental method, and when he studies inner life in others, he uses the objective method. The mental method is the first method that has been used in the study of psychology since ancient times, and only from the second half of the nineteenth century onwards have psychologists paid attention to the objective method! Some psychologists have considered these two methods completely opposite and contradictory and have preferred one over the other, while today the dominant theory is that both methods should be used together; as Ribot (one of the French psychologists), who initially criticized the mental method severely and tried to show the advantage of the objective method, finally acknowledged the importance of the mental method and considered it the fundamental method in psychology and even a necessary condition for other methods! (Shaleh, 1929; cited in Mahdavi, 1999, p. 137).
Perhaps it is for this reason that Wundt, the founder of the voluntarism school, claimed that although natural events can be explained according to the facts, psychological events cannot be justified in this way; therefore, the methods used by natural sciences are not suitable for psychology. Wundt believed that voluntary actions are lawful, but the laws governing these actions cannot be examined experimentally; therefore, Wundt believed that higher functions cannot be examined through experiment, but rather only through historical analysis and natural observation of psychologists (Herganhan, 2010, p. 381).
This school, by proposing the introspection method, opened a different space for the formation of human cognition and awareness of human phenomena and the rules governing them for researchers.
Some researchers have said: “Without resorting to the introspection method and without immediate present awareness of feelings, emotions, perceptions, and thoughts, the field of human psychology cannot be determined; however, it must be accepted that if we want to proceed only in this way, we will never be able to grasp the comprehensive nature of man. The introspection method only illuminates the small part of human life that individual experience is capable of perceiving, and will never be able to reach the vast field of all human phenomena, even if we succeed in collecting and mixing all information, we will still make a very poor and distorted picture of human reality” (Cassirer, 1994, p. 24); therefore, a part of human cognition is through cognitions obtained through present knowledge, because man finds his own self, psychological states, mental forms, and psychological actions (will) through present knowledge (Naqd-e Makāteb, p. 68).
Psychoanalysts such as Freud also criticized the conventional empirical method in psychology and do not consider it the only criterion for identifying the laws governing man and human behavior, and therefore emphasize their own psychoanalytic method and clinical method, which are a kind of inner intuition and individual reception.
Discussion and Conclusions: The chosen paradigm in the approach of Islamic psychology is the “rational realism paradigm.” Because this approach is on the path of discovering external facts and understanding the rules governing the human psyche. On the other hand, since human realities are divided into four categories: sensory, rational, intuitive, and revealed, the researcher will try to discover the reality in each of these four areas. Also, since the faculty and psychological mechanism that distinguishes the genuine from the counterfeit in these four domains is human reason, it has been considered rational. In sum, this paradigm follows principles that include:

Using Different Methods: Pluralism in methods and tools of cognition provides a better basis for identifying the subtleties and details of humans, how personality is formed, quantitative and qualitative changes, and also the characteristics of each stage of human evolution. The human cognitive system gains knowledge of the appearances of things through the senses, reaches the perception of universals through reason and rational argumentation, becomes aware of what is beyond the reach of sense and reason through transmitted reports and reference to documents, and gains knowledge of the self and inner states of man through present knowledge and inner intuition.
Using Quantitative and Qualitative Methods: Considering the challenges and obstacles in each of the quantitative and qualitative methods, the use of the integrated quantitative-qualitative method in the Islamic approach can be a solution.
Using Experimental Studies for Benchmarking: Sometimes the subject of research is a problem that has not been researched or very little. In such cases, the possibility of quantitative research is practically not possible. Rather, such problems are first studied with a qualitative method on the theoretical basis, so that the field of study is provided in an objective and external environment, and the problem is tested with experimental studies.
The Authority of Reason: This approach is called rational because reason is the final authority in establishing all methods and confirming findings in various methods.

Extended Abstract

Introduction and Objectives: “Romantic breakup” refers to the termination of a romantic relationship outside the framework of marriage, after which the individual, due to a deep sense of attachment, experiences severe anxiety and distress, sometimes accompanied by somatic symptoms (Rhoades et al., 2011). Given the complexity of romantic breakup and the fact that this phenomenon can simultaneously produce psychological, physical, behavioral, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual tensions in the individual (Akbarī et al., 2021), an effective intervention to reduce its clinical symptoms requires the application of a comprehensive and multidimensional therapy. In this regard, “God-oriented spiritual multidimensional psychotherapy,” first introduced by Jānbozorgī (1999), offers a comprehensive framework by combining Islamic teachings and Lazarus’s seven dimensions, and therefore may be appropriate for this purpose. In summary, the present study aims to assess and measure the effectiveness of the educational package based on God-oriented spiritual multidimensional psychotherapy, which was designed and validated by āfe ī (2025), in reducing clinical symptoms resulting from romantic breakup.
Method: To investigate the effectiveness of the educational package, an experimental design using a “single-subject design” (single-case) was employed. In this study, a “multiple-baseline design” across subjects was utilized to examine more precisely the validity of attributing changes to the educational package and to strengthen experimental control (Riley-Tillman & Burns, 2009). The target population comprised all clients suffering from romantic breakup in 2024 who referred to the Ārāmesh Counseling Center in the city of Qom and sought counseling for treatment. Based on the inclusion criteria, three individuals were selected by purposeful sampling and, after obtaining consent, entered the educational package process. For implementation of the package, all three participants simultaneously entered the baseline phase. Participants underwent between three and seven baseline sessions randomly. The first baseline assessment was carried out at the end of the interview phase, and subsequent assessments were conducted weekly. The educational package was delivered individually on a weekly basis for 60 minutes to each participant. Each participant, in all sessions of the three phases—baseline, educational package, and follow-up—completed the Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale (DASS) and the Love Trauma Inventory (LTI) to test the study hypothesis. According to Vannest et al. (2018), in data analysis to demonstrate statistical significance, the method of “visual analysis” of the data graphs was used, and to assess clinical significance, effect size was calculated. According to Lane and Gast (2014), visual analysis of the data was conducted by examining three important criteria for demonstrating the effectiveness of an intervention—”level,” “trend,” and “variability”—across different phases (baseline, intervention, and follow-up) and by comparing them across conditions. Visual analysis of the data graphs was performed at two levels: “within-condition analysis” and “between-condition analysis.” In examining effect size or efficacy, nonparametric methods including “percentage of non-overlapping data” (PND), “percentage of overlapping data” (POD), and “mean baseline reduction” (MBLR) were employed.
Results: First, the applicability of the training package was examined through assessment of clinical client satisfaction. One hundred percent of clients attended the training and follow-up sessions, and 85 percent of them completed individual activities. According to the self-report questionnaire completed by clients, satisfaction with the training course was 90 percent. Ease of implementing the techniques was 80 percent, perceived usefulness of the techniques was 90 percent, and 80 percent of clients applied the techniques. The overall mean of criteria was 89 percent. Results of administering the Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale (DASS) on its three subscales of depression, anxiety, and stress, in the raw scores section, showed that all three clients had high scores in the baseline phase on all three DASS scales, which decreased in the training package phase. Specifically, the percentage improvement of clients based on the Mean Baseline Reduction (MBLR) index on the DASS depression scale was 15.32 percent for the first client, 89.40 percent for the second client, and 18.55 percent for the third client, and the overall improvement for all three clients was 74.42 percent. On the DASS anxiety scale, it was 6.42 percent for the first client, 9.40 percent for the second client, and 74.50 percent for the third client, and the overall improvement for all three clients was 74.44 percent. On the DASS stress scale, it was 36.37 percent for the first client, 83.46 percent for the second client, and 3.56 percent for the third client, and the overall improvement for all three clients was 83.46 percent. To assess the effect size of the present study’s training package, two nonparametric indices including “percentage of non-overlapping data” (PND) and “percentage of overlapping data” (POD) were used. As shown, in all clients, a PND score above 80 percent indicates the training package was very effective. In the present study, the Love Trauma Inventory (LTI) of Rosse (1999) was used for pre-test, post-test, and follow-up measurement of romantic breakup clinical symptoms, and results showed that each of the three clients’ scores changed from the serious experience status of love trauma symptoms in the pre-test to a low degree in the post-test.
Conclusion: According to the findings of this study, it can be concluded that the aforementioned training package can be effective and may be applied in psychological services for individuals experiencing romantic breakup. Given the increasing and stable baseline trend in the progression line for all clients, based on the Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale (DASS), it is entirely possible to “predict” that had the intervention not begun, the level of clients’ clinical symptoms would have continued. Also, since the present intervention reversed the increasing or zero trends in the baseline line of all clients, one can speak of “verification” of the changes. On the other hand, because the intervention effect observed in the first individual was replicated in the second and third individuals, “replication” is demonstrated. With proof of an intervention’s effect, one can speak of its effect size; based on the findings of this study, the mean PND effect size indices based on the Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale (DASS) in all three clients were greater than 71.85 percent, which indicates the training package was very effective.
Acknowledgments: The authors express their gratitude to all study participants.
Conflict of Interest: The authors declare no conflicts of interest.

Extended Abstract

Introduction and Objectives: Physical-motor disability, as a major challenge to health and a factor in social isolation, not only creates functional limitations but is also accompanied by extensive psychological consequences such as feelings of shame, social rejection, and negative self-evaluations. These conditions can lead to the formation and exacerbation of maladaptive cognitive schemas, such as the defect/shame schema. According to Young’s theory (1999), the defect/shame schema is a stable cognitive-emotional pattern in which the individual perceives themselves as inherently defective, worthless, and shameful. This schema plays a fundamental role in the emergence and persistence of self-criticism (i.e., an internal, blaming, and hostile process towards oneself). Self-criticism, itself as a risk factor, can lead to cognitive fusion; a state in which the individual accepts their negative thoughts as accurate representations of reality and is unable to achieve cognitive distance from them. On the other hand, religious values, as a potential spiritual and supportive resource, can play a moderating or protective role in this vicious cycle. However, the intensity of self-criticism may lead to the weakening of these values. Previous research has separately addressed the relationships between these variables, but a lack of a comprehensive model examining the chain interaction of these constructs in the vulnerable population of individuals with physical-motor disabilities was felt. Therefore, the main objective of the present study was to investigate the chain-mediating role of cognitive fusion and religious values in the relationship between the defect/shame schema and self-criticism in individuals with physical-motor disabilities.
Method: This research was of an applied type with a descriptive-correlational design and was conducted using structural equation modeling (SEM). The statistical population of the study consisted of all individuals with physical-motor disabilities covered by the Welfare Organization of Mashhad city in the year 1402 (2023). Using convenience sampling, out of 350 invited individuals, finally 330 people who met the inclusion criteria (such as having a confirmed disability certificate, minimum elementary education, and informed consent) and had completed the questionnaire in full, were entered into the analysis. The average age of the participants was 32.09 years, with 67% male and 33% female. Data collection tools included: the Young Schema Questionnaire (YSQ) to measure the defect/shame schema, the Levels of Self-Criticism Scale (LOSC) to measure self-criticism, the Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire (CFQ) to measure cognitive fusion, and the Religious Values Scale (RVS) to measure religious values. The validity and reliability of each of these tools had been confirmed in domestic and international studies. After collecting data online and in compliance with ethical principles, the data were analyzed using SPSS and AMOS software version 23. First, descriptive statistics and the Pearson correlation matrix were calculated. Then, using structural equation modeling, the direct and indirect relationships between the variables were fitted, and the mediating role of the variables was tested using the Bootstrap method (with 5000 resamples). The fit of the final model was also evaluated using GFI, CFI, NFI, IFI, AGFI, and RMSEA indices.
Results: Correlation findings indicated that all research variables had a significant relationship with each other. Specifically, the defect/shame schema had a positive correlation with self-criticism (r = .62, p < .01) and cognitive fusion (r = .63, p < .01), and a negative correlation with religious values (r = -.52, p < .01). The results of the structural equation model indicated a favorable fit of the final model with the data (X²/df = 1.83, GFI = .97, CFI = .99, RMSEA = .05). Examination of direct paths showed that the defect/shame schema had a significant positive direct effect on self-criticism (β = .66, p = .001) and cognitive fusion (β = .25, p = .001). Self-criticism had a significant positive direct effect on cognitive fusion (β = .34, p = .001) and a significant negative direct effect on religious values (β = -.69, p = .001). Religious values also had a significant negative direct effect on cognitive fusion (β = -.30, p = .001). Examination of the mediating role using the Bootstrap method showed that self-criticism significantly mediated the relationship between the defect/shame schema and cognitive fusion (indirect effect: β = .36, p = .001). Religious values significantly mediated the relationship between self-criticism and cognitive fusion (indirect effect: β = .21, p = .001). These findings indicate a chain model: the defect/shame schema increases cognitive fusion by increasing self-criticism. On the other hand, high self-criticism indirectly leads to increased cognitive fusion by weakening religious values.
Discussion and Conclusion: The findings of this study confirm a complex conceptual model of the interaction of cognitive, emotional, and spiritual constructs in individuals with physical-motor disabilities. According to schema therapy theory, the defect/shame schema, as a central core, prepares the ground for the formation of intense self-critical patterns by creating persistent feelings of shame and worthlessness. Self-criticism is not only an outcome but also a reinforcing factor that intensifies the maladaptive cognitive-emotional cycle by reducing the individual’s ability to distance themselves from negative thoughts (increasing cognitive fusion). The strength and distinction of this research was the inclusion of religious values in this model. The findings showed that strong religious values can, as a spiritual resource, reduce the negative effects of self-criticism on cognitive fusion. However, severe self-criticism can itself lead to the weakening of this protective resource. This bidirectional relationship shows the importance of integrated interventions. The findings of this study emphasize the necessity of using integrated therapeutic approaches such as schema therapy (for targeting early maladaptive schemas), acceptance and commitment therapy (for reducing cognitive fusion and increasing psychological flexibility), and strengthening spirituality and religious values (as a resource for creating meaning, self-acceptance, and support) in working with individuals with disabilities. Limitations such as the cross-sectional nature of the design, the use of convenience sampling, and the online completion of questionnaires should be considered when generalizing the results. It is suggested that future studies investigate the role of other moderating variables such as social support and resilience in this model using longitudinal design and random sampling.

Extended Abstract

Introduction and Objectives: Critical thinking is presented as a key component in deep learning and decision-making. Therefore, teaching critical thinking in today’s complex world is essential. The Oxford Dictionary defines critical thinking as the process of analyzing information to make a logical decision about the truth of a belief. The American Philosophical Association, by summarizing other definitions and considering two components “cognitive skills” and “emotional dispositions,” has provided a comprehensive definition of critical thinking. Positive emotional dispositions or an inclination toward critical thinking are a vital part of this type of thinking, and without them, critical thinking either does not occur or manifests below the standard level. It is noteworthy that the most recognized measures of disposition toward critical thinking are engagement, maturity, and innovativeness. On the other hand, the concept of critical thinking is not unfamiliar to Islamic education; the Quran addressed this subject fourteen centuries ago. Therefore, fostering critical thinking in Islamic education, aimed at achieving the ultimate goals of Islam, not only includes analytical skills and logical evaluation but also manifests in cultivating moderate ethical attitudes and conscious inquiry. Additionally, Iran’s National Curriculum Document emphasizes attention to the components of critical thinking, and the Comprehensive Scientific Map of the country also stresses the importance of critical thinking and its exemplifications. Despite these rich frameworks, conducted research reveals deficiencies in the educational system’s ability to cultivate critical thinking at various educational levels.
In this regard, this study was conducted with the aim of comparing the disposition toward critical thinking between students of Theology Education and Counseling at Farhangian University, as a governmental and mission-oriented university, and Level 1 seminary students at the Islamic Seminary, in order to identify existing educational gaps and pave the way for necessary improvements.
Method: This research is applied in terms of its objective and quantitative in terms of data collection, of the descriptive-comparative type, with the necessary data collected through a cross-sectional survey. The study involved three statistical populations: first- and final-year male undergraduate students in Theology Education (88 cases) and Counseling (103 cases) at Farhangian University of Mashhad, and seminary students in levels 1, 2, 4, and 5 (75 cases) at the Al-Mahdi Seminary (AJ) in Mashhad, branches 1 and 2, who had entered the seminary with a high school diploma. Among these 266 people, a sample of 189 was selected by convenience sampling, with gender considered as a controlled variable and fixed; only males were examined. The data collection instrument was the standardized 33-item Ricketts Critical Thinking Disposition Assessment (CTDA) questionnaire, consisting of three subscales: Engagement, Maturity, and Innovativeness. In Iran, Pakmehr and colleagues (2013) first translated this questionnaire and, after confirming its face and content validity, administered it to 472 high school students in Mashhad, validating it and reporting its reliability with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.76. In the present study, the reliability coefficients of the research instrument obtained by Cronbach’s alpha were 0.73 for the Engagement subscale, 0.67 for Maturity, and 0.69 for Innovativeness. Seventeen questionnaires were invalid and excluded from the analysis, resulting in a final sample of 172 questionnaires analyzed using SPSS version 27 at descriptive statistics level (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (one-sample t-test, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Tukey’s post hoc test).
Results: The findings indicated that the level of disposition toward critical thinking, as well as the levels of its components (Engagement, Maturity, and Innovativeness), in both students of the Theology Education and Counseling disciplines and in seminary students—whether first-year or final-year, thus across six groups studied—were significantly higher than the test value (99, 39, 27, 33) and were shown to be at a moderate level. Only the component of maturity (28.07) in final-year Theology Education students did not show a significant difference from the test value (27), indicating a relative weakness in their maturity scores compared to other scores. Additionally, within-group comparisons between first-year and final-year students in each population showed that, unlike seminary students, whose disposition toward critical thinking did not differ significantly between grades 1 and 2 versus grades 4 and 5, the disposition toward critical thinking in Theology Education and Counseling students significantly decreased from the first to the final year. This decrease was notably evident in the engagement component of final-year Counseling students. Finally, between-group comparisons of first-year students across the three populations revealed no significant difference in the means of the two components of engagement and maturity; however, the mean innovativeness component in seminary students of grades 1 and 2 was noticeably and significantly lower than that of first-year Theology Education students. Similarly, between-group comparisons of final-year students across the three populations showed no significant difference in the means of the two components of engagement and innovativeness, but the mean maturity component in seminary students of grades 4 and 5 was higher than that of final-year Theology Education students.
Discussion and Conclusions: Although studies have shown that the level of critical thinking in higher education in Iran has not only failed to improve over the past two decades but has also remained relatively stable at a low level, the educational environments of the seminary and Farhangian University have differences in fostering various dimensions of disposition toward critical thinking. In some aspects, the seminary’s educational programs have performed better because they have addressed the innovativeness weaknesses of the early years of students and have also surpassed Farhangian University in the domain of maturity. This result may be the outcome of fundamental changes in the seminary, emphasizing research orientation, the addition of updated courses, the division of advanced levels into general and specialized tracks, and the inclusion of 16 widely used knowledge domains, which have been implemented in recent years as part of the seminary’s curriculum transformation. According to evaluations conducted, these changes have led to relatively favorable learning outcomes, behavioral results, and performance. On the other hand, the decline in disposition toward critical thinking during the final years of the undergraduate program at Farhangian University indicates a weakness in their educational system’s ability to sustain the enhancement of critical thinking. This may stem from repetitive and non-applicable course content, inappropriate teaching methods, the instruction of scattered and unrelated topics, classes lacking creativity and attractiveness, and the absence of student participation in discussions, as supported by research. This underscores the necessity for greater attention to rationality and human reflection.
Since the traditional teaching approach does not emphasize practical problem-solving or the development of critical thinking, it is appropriate for the officials of Farhangian University to consider and reflect on the findings of this research and to pursue the use of active learning strategies and learner-centered learning, which help students actively participate in their own discovery process.
Acknowledgements: Hereby, appreciation and gratitude are extended to all the managers and educational staff of Farhangian University and Al-Mahdi Seminary (AJ) in Mashhad, as well as the students and seminary students who participated in completing the research questionnaire.
Conflict of Interests: The authors declare that this research had no financial support and that there are no conflicts of interest in the results of this study.
