Abstract

The aim of this research is to discover the role of the main aspects of personality in the relationship with God. By convenience sampling, 345 students of Shahid Beheshti University were selected and then they responded to personality questionnaires NEO (McCrae & Costa, 1985) and relationship with God (Mazaheri, Pasandideh, & Sadeghi, 1390). The data analyzing by correlation and regression tests showed that neuroticism predicts negative relationship with God, and the characteristics of extraversion, agreeableness, and responsibility predict positive relationship with God. The people with these personality characteristics have a positive relationship with God that it causes the love, fear, and hope in God (good relationship) lead to the respect for and trust in God. On the other hand, the neurotic people have a negative mental image toward self and God and they form their relationship with God on the basis of some unreal characteristics of God such as farness and strictness.
