This study reflects the role of religion in reducing the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The present research employed a pretest-posttest control group experimental design to investigate the effectiveness of religion in reducing the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Thus, a total of 30 subjects with obsessive-compulsive disorder in Mashhad, were selected randomly and assigned into two groups: 15 to the Islamic therapy, and 15 to the control group. The outcomes were assessed with the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) at pretest and posttest. Treatment sessions were held once a week. Each session lasted one hour; totally, 12 sessions were held. Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) was used to analyze the results. The results suggested that Islamic therapy was equally effective in reducing the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder.
