Aims and Scope

Journal of Studies in Islam and Psychology is devoted to Islamic studies of psychological processes and phenomena. This journal provides a means for sustained discussion of psychologically relevant issues that can be examined empirically and concern Islam in the most general sense. Journal of Studies in Islam and Psychology has been established as the first Iran's scientific publication in the field of psychology with an Islamic approach to provide an intellectual platform for national and international researchers working on issues related to Islamic psychology and counselling and creates a context for the development of Islamic psychology and counselling as an academic discipline. This journal welcomes and reviews original research related to the relationship between Islamic teachings and human behavior and psychological experiences, and integrating Islamic values into modern psychology and combining Islamic principles and teachings with contemporary psychological findings. The journal publishes articles employing experimental and correlational methods, qualitative analyses, and critical reviews of the literature. Papers evaluating clinically relevant issues surrounding training, professional development, and practice are also considered. 

The journal scopes include but are not restricted to, the following areas:

  • The philosophy of psychology, a critical view from the perspective of Islam;
  • Islamic psychology and counselling;
  • The formation of psychology in Muslim society;
  • Muslims scholars' significant contributions to the development of psychology;
  • faith-based theoretical understanding of human Psychology from the perspective of Islam;
  • Psychological analysis of Islamic concepts in areas such as:
  • 1. Anthropology: "Manū'a", "Halū'a", hurriedness, censoriousness, sincerity, piety, faithfulness;
  • 2. Belief: God, resurrection, Imāmate, intercession, Paradise, Hell and ...;
  • 3. Value: repentance, trust, self-esteem, mental peace, grief, fear;
  • 4. Practical instructions of Islam, such as: Qisās (retaliation in kind), prayers, inheritance, hajj, khūms (one fifth);
  • The connection between mental health and Islamic spirituality;
  • The application of the main concepts of Islamic Psychology in the practice of Islamic Counselling;
  • Islāmic psychology and psychotherapy;
  • Integrating Islamic values into modern psychology and combining Islamic principles and teachings with contemporary psychological findings;
  • The theoretical and practical perspectives of psychology and the Islamic sciences;
  • Islamic Psychology & counselling and society;
  • Qualitative and experimental analyses and critical reviews of the literature, and providing new and innovative theories and approaches.

The Journal of Studies in Islam and Psychology supports equity, diversity, and inclusion in its practices.
