Abstract

This study has been conducted with the aim of identifying the similarities and differences of lifestyle from the Allameh Tabatabai's and Dalai Lama's viewpoints. The study applied an interdisciplinary approach which involves both ethics and psychology and it also used a scientific-religious approach. The methodology of this study was the theoretical analysis of religious and psychological texts. The results showed that Allameh Tabatabai believes the scope of lifestyle is divided into four categories of the relationship with God, self, the others, and nature that last three categories are placed under the relationship with God; but, Dalai Lama pays attention to just three categories of the relationship with self, the others, and nature and ignores the category of the relationship with God. Although both of them are basically different in terms of principles and goals, they discuss self-knowledge, kindness, respect for parents, love for spouse, and protection of environment and they also criticize technology. In fact, Allameh Tabatabai has a doctrinal-ethical approach and Dalai Lama believes in secular ethics.
