Abstract
This study was conducted with the aim of investigating the role of dark triad of personality, material preoccupations, and sorrow of being compared in deadly sins. In this descriptive-correlational study, 566 students of Birjand university were selected by the cluster sampling and they answered the questionnaire of seven deadly sins, dark personality scale, subscale of sorrow of being compared, envy scale, material preoccupation subscale, and greed-contentment scale. The Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis were applied for testing the study hypotheses. Some of the results are as follows: 1. Sorrow of being compared, Machiavellianism, and material preoccupations predict wrath. 2. Sorrow of being compared, Machiavellianism, material preoccupations, and psychopathy predict envy. 3. Machiavellianism, sorrow of being compared, psychopathy, and material preoccupations predict gluttony. 4. Machiavellianism, material preoccupations, and psychopathy predict greed. 5. Machiavellianism, sorrow of being compared, and material preoccupations predict lust. 6. Machiavellianism, material preoccupations, psychopathy, and sorrow of being compared predict pride. 7. Material preoccupations, sorrow of being compared, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism predict sloth.
