Developing a model of religious commitment based on the style of attachment to God with the mediating role of the mental image of God

Abstract

The current research was conducted with the aim of compiling a model of religious commitment based on the style of attachment to God and with the mediating role of the mental image of God. The purpose of the research; The foundation and design of the research was of the correlation type based on the relationships of the structural equation model.
 The statistical population included all male and female undergraduate students in humanities fields of the Islamic Azad University in Tehran, a sample of 340 people was selected using a multi-stage cluster random sampling method and the data were selected using the commitment scale. Worthington et al.'s religiosity, Patrick's style of attachment to God scale, and the scale of human mental image of God were collected. Data analysis was done with SPSS-22 and AMOS-29 statistical software.
The results showed that the model has good fit indices, which are: χ2/df=2.34, CFI=0.9, TLI=0.91, RMSEA=0.07, SRMR=0.06, as well as the image of God. It plays a role as a mediating variable for the style of attachment to God and religious commitment, and religious commitment is influenced by other variables such as style of attachment to God and mental image of God. The importance of a positive image of God by the family and cultural and educational systems, as well as knowing God as a safe haven in all moments of life, brings a sense of security and peace to man.
