Abstract

ience is a important construct in psychology that helps individuals endure a wide range of distressing, adverse, and challenging situations, allowing them to navigate difficult and unpleasant situations with relative calm. Research has demonstrated the beneficial and positive impact of this construct on other psychological variables. Moreover, the protective role of patience in coping with harmful events and mitigating their detrimental effects has been well-established. Therefore, assessing this virtue, particularly in children and adolescents, is of great importance. Consequently, developing a scale to measure patience in children and adolescents and examining its psychometric properties is crucial. The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Patience Scale for Children and Adolescents. This scale was developed based on the Adult Patience Scale, and to assess its psychometric properties, 845 students from Shiraz were selected through cluster random sampling and responded to the Patience Scale for Children and Adolescents. In this study, confirmatory factor analysis was employed to assess the scale's validity. The factor analysis results confirmed the existence of five components: Persistence, transcendence, Forbearance, Hesitation, and satisfaction, in the Patience Scale for Children and Adolescents. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was used to assess the scale's reliability, and the results indicated suitable reliability for the five components and the overall scale. Overall, the findings of this study demonstrate that the Patience Scale for Children and Adolescents possesses adequate validity and reliability, making it suitable for research applications.
